Compliance & Privacy Issues
Most website owners are now aware of this legal requirement, which as of 26th May 2012 became legally enforceable in the EU. Failure to comply could cost your business or organisation up to £500,000!
It is beyond the scope of this page to cover all the relevant information regarding current legislation, but if you would like to find out more, including how to make your website compliant, what cookies are and how they work, or how to control cookies, then please visit our dedicated No Nonsense Cookies website.
If you collect personal information from visitors to your website, there are several obligations (both legal and ethical) that you need to consider. What your obligations are depends on the nature of the information you collect, as well as what you do with this information.
At the very least, you need to be aware of (and comply with) the Data Protection Act 1998, and if you use this information for marketing purposes, the subsequent Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations.
The requirements of these acts and regulations can seem quite daunting at first, but for most small business websites, they boil down to a few rules and a little common sense. Our dedicated team will be happy to assess your website and advise you of your obligations.
