What is Search Engine Promotion?

'Search Engine Promotion' is designed to build upon the 'Search Engine Optimisation' process by taking your website even further up the Search Engine rankings. Whereas building a 'Search Engine friendly' website, or 'optimising' your website for the Search Engines are normally one-off tasks, 'Search Engine Promotion' is a regular ongoing process.

Regular Submissions

Many Search Engines allow you to re-submit your site on a regular basis. In fact, some actually prefer it in order to keep your listing 'fresh' within their database. Some Search Engines only allow you to submit your domain name or home page, while others allow you to submit several pages (to promote different key phrases within your site).

Search Engines also prefer to see websites that are updated with new or fresh content on a regular basis. Re-submitting your site helps them index your new content quickly as well as keeping, or even improving, your current listings.

Monitoring

It is all well and good optimising your site and attaining good rankings with the Search Engines, but without regular monitoring how will you know if your position slides? Or why? There are several reasons why an initially good position can slide down the search results:

  • As mentioned above, Search Engines like to see new content added from time to time.
  • A new competitor may arrive on the scene, or an old one may improve their optimisation.
  • A Search Engine may change its' algrorithms *

* Search Engines use 'algorithms' to determine the relevancy and importance of a web page within the search results. These algorithms are so important that many books and even entire websites are dedicated to understanding them! Unfortunately, they also have a habit of changing them from time to time, which can affect your listings.

With regular monitoring and analysis of your listings we can help avoid these problems. This also helps identify which 'key phrases' are doing well, and which (if any) are not. That way we can make adjustments to your optimised pages or update your list of key phrases, if necessary. We can also monitor competitor sites if required.

Reporting

Once the monitoring and analysis are completed, we can provide you with concise, easy to read reports on a monthly basis. These 'Ranking Reports' show you exactly what position you currently hold for each of your 'key phrases' within each of the major Search Engines. They will also clearly indicate whether phrases have increased or decreased their ranking over previous months. Once again, we can include competitor analysis here if required.

If your website is hosted with us, or we are given access to your 'web logs', we can also provide regular 'website traffic' reports. These reports provide information on the number of visitors to your site, which pages are most/least popular, how long they spent on your site, how they arrived at your site (e.g. which Search Engine sent them, and what key words were used), etc., etc.

Further Promotion

For most businesses, the Search Engine Promotion as detailed above will be sufficient to gain, and maintain, good 'visibility' within the major Search Engines. If however, you are in a particularly competitive market, there are still many ways to further promote your website. Such examples include 'Paid-for-Listings, 'Pay-Per-Click' campaigns, and 'Link Building' among others. We will be happy to advise you on these.
